I think a good option would be to have a multiple-selection option with the brands available on the market, with Hot Wheels as the primary default, but allowing users to choose others like Matchbox, Majorette, Johnny Lightning, Greenlight, Autoworld, and others.

The option could be similar to when you choose a country, where all the options are available, but one is the default and the others are just options.

And after choosing the brand, we could write the description of the added vehicle.

Good news is the high end premium brands like MiniGT, Kaido, they're all numbered. So there's only about ~1300 MiniGTs in total, ever, making that very easy to track.

Early matchbox was also straightforward. The range quickly expanded from 3 cars in 1953 to 75 total cars by 1960, but the difficulty there is the castings did not even change color for multiple years at a time, making it impossible to tell which of the range of years available it was. If cars can be listed as coming from multiple years instead of individual entries to cut back duplicates, this can become fairly straightforward and easy to implement. I can help with the oddities where I can.

Majorette, Tomica, Corgi and some of the older cars will be difficult because their back catalog information is murky at best. There are some good resources, but it will be difficult to source information for those. Johnny Lightning as well.

hey I have one really big request when planning the UX for this feature – a clear separation of brands. Personally, I collect only HW, and that’s all I’m interested in. I would really like to maintain that kind of clarity and cleanliness. This could probably be solved, for example, like this: dividing the entire app into specific brands – the user chooses a brand upon open the app and then stays within it. Additionally, you could add a global statistic in the profile, such as “total number of cars from all brands” or something similar :)
